Smt. Koduru Hymavati Satya Jagadamba (1938–2025) was a woman of extraordinary vision, deep patriotism, and unwavering social commitment, who devoted more than six decades of her life to the service of society and the nation. Born on 16 January 1938 at Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, to Sri Bhatlapenumarthi Rama Rao and Smt. Kanakadurga, she was shaped from an early age by values of compassion, discipline, and responsibility toward the community. These values became the foundation of a life marked by purposeful action, moral conviction, and selfless public service. In time, she emerged as the Founder-President of the Sri Pingali Venkaiah Charitable Trust and Memorial Organisation, through which she gave enduring form to her patriotic ideals, Gandhian spirit, and commitment to national consciousness.

Throughout her life, Smt. Jagadamba Garu worked tirelessly for the social and economic upliftment of the underprivileged, particularly women. As early as 1967, she established Sridevi Andhra Home Industries in Hyderabad with the aim of creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for women from modest and marginalised backgrounds. Her efforts gradually expanded into other small-scale and welfare-oriented activities, reflecting her belief that self-reliance, dignity of labour, and community support were essential to meaningful social progress. Her service was not confined to one field alone; rather, it extended across women’s empowerment, child welfare, community development, and cultural awakening.

Her most enduring and nationally significant contribution, however, lay in her determined efforts to restore due recognition to Sri Pingali Venkaiah Garu, the patriot associated with the evolution of the Indian National Flag. Moved by the conviction that such a towering national figure had not received the place he deserved in public memory, she undertook a sustained mission of research, advocacy, and public education. Through the Trust, she dedicated herself to preserving and promoting his legacy by organising commemorative events, patriotic programmes, essay and quiz competitions, cultural activities, awareness campaigns, and educational initiatives aimed especially at the younger generation. Her work was not merely about honouring the past; it was about nurturing national pride, civic responsibility, and a deeper understanding of India’s heritage. Her persistent efforts played an important role in bringing wider public attention to Sri Pingali Venkaiah Garu’s contribution, including the release of a commemorative postage stamp in 2009 in his honour.

Smt. Jagadamba Garu was also an accomplished writer and a woman of deep spiritual conviction. Her literary works reveal the blend of devotion, patriotism, and scholarship that defined her life. Among them is “Mana Vadu, Medhavi Sri Pingali Venkaiah,” a work reflecting her reverence for Sri Pingali Venkaiah Garu and her desire to place his legacy before the people of India. She also authored spiritual compositions such as the “Sri Kashi Vishweswara Namavali,” revealing a mind deeply rooted in faith and a life in which service and spirituality moved together in harmony. Whether through writing, public work, or institution-building, she remained guided by a sense of higher purpose and a quiet but firm resolve.

What distinguished Smt. Jagadamba Garu most was her ability to combine vision with action. She was not only a patriot in thought, but a builder in practice—one who transformed ideals into institutions, remembrance into movement, and service into legacy. Her life stood as an example of how individual dedication can preserve national memory and inspire collective responsibility. Even in the face of personal hardships and changing times, she remained steadfast in her mission, carrying forward her work with grace, endurance, and unshakeable commitment.

Upon her passing on 18 December 2025, she left behind not merely an organisation, but a living legacy of patriotism, service, and national remembrance. The values she upheld and the mission she nurtured continue to endure through the work of the Sri Pingali Venkaiah Charitable Trust and Memorial Organisation. Today, her vision is being carried forward by her children, Sri Shyamala Rao and Ms. Sridevi, together with the coordination of the trustees and the committed members of the society, who remain dedicated to fulfilling the noble objectives she set in motion. Through their continued efforts, her life’s work remains alive, ensuring that the ideals of service, cultural memory, and national heritage are preserved and passed on to future generations.

The central mission that guided Smt. Koduru Hymavati Satya Jagadamba Garu’s later years was to secure the rightful recognition due to Sri Pingali Venkaiah Garu and to preserve his legacy in the national consciousness. It was in pursuit of this deeply held objective that she founded the Sri Pingali Venkaiah Charitable Trust and dedicated herself tirelessly to its work.
